# Tracking Competitors

> Track and compare your visibility against competitors

Tracking competitors in ChatFeatured helps you understand your relative position in AI visibility and identify opportunities to outperform them.

## Why Track Competitors?

When AI answer engines respond to user queries, they often mention multiple brands. By tracking competitors, you can:

* See who else appears when your brand is mentioned
* Identify prompts where competitors appear but you don't
* Monitor competitive positioning over time
* Benchmark your visibility against the market

## Adding Competitors

### Manual Addition

1. Navigate to **Competitors** in the sidebar
2. Click **Add Competitor**
3. Enter the competitor's details:
   * **Name**: The primary brand name
   * **Website**: Their main domain
   * **Aliases**: Alternative names or spellings
4. Click **Save**

### Suggested Competitors

ChatFeatured can suggest competitors based on your brand and industry:

1. Review the suggested competitors
2. Approve any you want to track

Suggestions are based on:

* Brands that frequently appear alongside yours in AI responses
* Companies in your category
* Names mentioned in your prompt results

<Tip>
  Start by tracking 3-5 direct competitors. You can always add more as you discover them in your results.
</Tip>

## Managing Competitors

### Editing Competitors

Click on any competitor to edit their details:

* Update the name if branding changes
* Add aliases to catch variations
* Update website URL

### Removing Competitors

To stop tracking a competitor:

1. Select the competitor
2. Click **Delete**

<Note>
  Removing a competitor doesn't delete historical data where they were mentioned. Past results remain unchanged.
</Note>

## Competitor Aliases

Aliases help catch all variations of a competitor's name:

* **Abbreviations**: "IBM" for "International Business Machines"
* **Product names**: "Office 365" for "Microsoft"
* **Common misspellings**: "Atlassian" and "Atlasian"
* **Alternative formats**: "HubSpot" and "Hub Spot"

Add aliases when creating or editing a competitor to ensure comprehensive tracking.

## Viewing Competitor Data

### In Prompt Results

When viewing individual prompt results, you'll see:

* Which competitors were mentioned in each response
* Their position relative to your brand
* The context of their mention

The analytics dashboard shows competitive metrics:

* **Mention Rate Comparison**: Your rate vs. competitor rates
* **Head-to-Head**: Direct comparison on shared prompts
